We currently have an exciting opportunity on the Nellson team! We are seeking an energetic and results oriented Sales Director with experience in food industry and technical sales of custom products to join our Commercial Development team located in Anaheim, California.


Role Summary:

The Sales Director will spearhead the new business development strategy and execution for Nellson's market segment. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to establish and execute the vision for the Company's growth with existing customers and driving business opportunities with new channels and customers. The Sales Director will bring a demonstrated track record of building new business and new segments within the food industry. The individual should have a deep customer list and history of building relationships across all levels of major food companies. The Sales Director will collaborate at all levels of the organization and across multiple cross-functional departments such as R&D, Purchasing, Marketing, QA, Finance, and Operations. This individual will bring a reputation of driving results as both an individual contributor and as a team player. In order to deliver upon growth initiatives, this individual must possess the passion, energy and stamina to continually look into the future, while not ignoring the present. Finally, this individual must embrace an ever-changing, fast paced environment and pursues their work with passion and a commitment to quality work .directs, plans, and organizes all phases of Distribution Center and Transportation activities within North and Latin America, and is responsible for the implementation and execution of process management, ensuring total customer satisfaction.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Operational Excellence. Establish Company as a long-term supplier at strategic account by developing, maintaining and expanding strong customer relationships at multiple levels and functions.  Develop strategic go to market plan for channels to drive incremental growth with existing account base and business development opportunities with targeted Communicate key issues, project milestones and potential opportunities and/or risks to appropriate cross-functional team members. Continually advise of changes/activities that directly or indirectly affect current depth of relationship.


  • Customer-centricity. Utilize direct contact, relevant trade organization events/contacts and personal business network to maximize Develop and maintain strong relationships with Company's current strategic account base, driving new product and technology solutions. Drive exceptional customer service, ensuring that appropriate resources and actions are recommended to address customer-based issues including competitive threats, product and service complaints.


  • Attention to Detail. Conduct current market assessment, competitive opportunities, and product portfolio to align with business development projections/forecasts Analyze cost models and negotiate re-pricing programs with customers to maintain profitability. Develop strategic plan for growth or development of new customers for maximization of company capabilities and linkage between Company and customer organization. Relentlessly pursue product capability, market knowledge and competitive insight applying knowledge to current business development


  • Financial Acumen. Develop annual sales budget targets for assigned market channels, striving to meet budget objectives and taking appropriate action to achieve and/or exceed sales budget target. Monitor and lead overall profitability and operating profit per customer and product consistent with Company's long range plan. Develop detailed financial projections for existing business and consult with Vice President Sales and functional team to assess overall profitability.


  • Authority. Act as a liaison to help negotiate financial terms and conditions of supply agreements with customers. Present to cross-functional team for approval. Authorize customer deductions and miscellaneous charges with approval from VP Sales and CFO.  Identify and manage solutions to customer issues and present to internal cross functional group for alignment and approval.  Negotiate financial considerations and manage appropriately under the direction of VP Sales and CFO.  In conjunction with VP Sales and CFO, responsible for managing the P&L of assigned customers.


 Position Requirements:

  • Four-year College Degree required with Master Degree a plus.
  • 1O+ years of sales in the food industry. Preferably, technical sales of custom products to various market segments.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing new business and new segments.
  • Proven experience leading strategic growth with the ability to bring key contacts and new business opportunities to the organizations.
  • Proven relationship skills with established relationships with assigned customers a plus.
  • Proven account management skills.
  • Ability to build a multifaceted relationship with customers in R&D, Purchasing, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Senior Management.
  • Experience in Strategic Account Management and Solution Based Selling.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, Windows, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively under deadlines while accurately multi-tasking.
  • Must be able to work as a team with colleagues and other functional members.
  • Ability to lead through complex business situations; exceptional strategic thinking, negotiation, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Leads with passion and process to create win-win results.


Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel on short notice.
