We currently have an exciting opportunity on the Nellson team! We are seeking an energetic and results oriented Sr. Supplier Quality Manager with experience developing, implementing and managing food safety and quality programs/systems.

Role Summary:

The Sr. Supplier Quality Manager will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop and implement Nellson corporate Supplier Quality Program (SQP) to deliver improvement in food safety and quality.  Position has ultimate responsibility for developing, implementing and managing supplier food safety and quality standards / procedures / protocols such as the raw material review and approval protocols, supply chain preventive controls, raw material risk assessment, supplier audit, etc.                 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with Procurement and R&D across all sites to develop Nellson corporate SQP.
  • Develop, implement and manage supplier food safety and quality standards / procedures / protocols in line with applicable food regulations including FDA FSMA (e.g., FSVP), CFIA, Nellson and customer requirements.
  • Perform new supplier and raw material (ingredient and packaging) review and approval functions.
  • Develop and maintain supplier and raw material food safety risk ranking including evaluating internal and supplier Preventive Controls. Work with Nellson factory Food Safety Teams (FST's) and customers to implement appropriate controls to minimize risks.
  • Manage and maintain raw material hazard analysis for Nellson factory Food Safety Plans (FSP) while working closely with Nellson factory FST's.
  • Manage information to Nellson factory QA Managers on raw material specifications, set-up testing, receiving inspection and storage requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with customers and Nellson teams on Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) process. Review SCAR's to ensure effective corrective actions being taken by suppliers, monitoring trends in non-conformances and initiating follow up.
  • Serve as Nellson technical resource for raw material related questions both within and outside of the organization.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, Nellson Procurement and R&D in achieving cost savings projects as they relate to ingredients and suppliers.
  • Select and implement software to manage supplier information. Maintain a current and accurate database of supplier quality management information such as Approved Vendor List (AVL), risk analysis results, etc.
  • Develop supplier audit program. Conduct planned supplier audits in accordance with GFSI, FSMA, and CFIA requirements and manage audit data.
  • Manage technical and clerical staff in their performance of supplier approval and ingredient qualification.

 Position Requirements:

  • 4 year college or university degree in Food Science / Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of progressive food / beverage safety and quality management experience.
  • Ability to develop, implement and manage food safety and quality programs / systems.
  • Working knowledge of current regulations (e.g., FSMA), GFSI and audit (SQF, BRC and/or FSSC 22000) schemes.
  • HACCP certification or equivalent
  • Hands-on knowledge of raw material and supplier hazard risk assessment.
  • Food manufacturing and warehouse auditing experience (to GFSI is preferred).
  • Ability to write professional technical procedures, instructions and reports.
  • Ability to lead and influence others without direct authority.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with external and internal teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written documents, make presentations, facilitate meetings, and provide training
  • Highly organized and able to manage large amounts of data and prioritize multiple demands
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs, SAP/JDE or similar systems.
  • Able to travel 15 - 25%, as needed during the year.


Preferred Experience/Skills/Certifications

  • 3 5 years leading a Supplier Quality Program.
  • Certified PCQI
  • Certified SQF Practitioner
  • Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • Continuous improvement, Six Sigma or Lean certification / experience.
  • Dry powder, dietary supplement or confectionary manufacturing experience.
