We currently have an exciting opportunity on the Nellson team! We are seeking an energetic and results oriented QA Supervisor.

Role Summary:

The QA Supervisor will bring statistical & food quality assurance knowledge along with strong enthusiasm and leadership to work in this team environment. The ideal candidate will also mentor and grow our QA team and certification levels. The QA Supervisor will provide guidance to the organization regarding all Quality Assurance efforts.

The QA Supervisor is responsible for food safety, quality, and legality of our products by insuring a high standard of food processing sanitation at the pre-operational and operational stages of production. The scope of work covers raw materials, equipment, processes and finished products as well as compliance to various   regulatory agencies. The position will require the individual to work closely with the management team.   

The QA Supervisor reports to the QA Manager who will serve as backup in case of absence, but, works independently and is able to evaluate data objectively, free of managerial influence. QA Supervisor will assume responsibility to cover the position in case of absence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Empowered and responsible for ensuring the quality system is implemented and followed tall
  • Manage the accumulation and reporting of all required quality assurance tests. These test include process temperatures, product net weights and packaging quality. Also included are, pH analysis, microbial analysis and other quality
  • Direct the monitoring   of Environmental   Monitoring Program with recorded   pre-operational inspections, Recorded microbial analysis of equipment, notifications of physical plant deficiencies and evaluation of the overall effectiveness of plant clean up.
  • Maintain effective working relationship with FDA and other regulatory This includes keeping abreast of new or modified regulations, maintenance of required plant records and ensuring all Environmental Monitoring and processing standards are confidently met or exceeded. Facilitate internal and external audit programs, including lab responses and corrective actions.
  • Re-evaluate, update and maintain Food Safety program (obtain HACCP certification if necessary. Improve and continue self-inspection program using AIB recommendations as a guideline. Maintain current and explore new certification or approval programs. Monitor, evaluate and update as necessary all food safety programs the Pest Control Program, all operational methods and personnel practices (GMPs), and al cleaning and EMP programs and
  • Communicate effectively with Sales, Marketing, R&D, and ensures coordination of efforts with production. This Includes new product work, specification changes, problems or suggestions from the field, etc. Assist Analysts and administrative staff in preparing and updating SOPs. Implement and keep current a Document Control Program. Distribute current SOPs to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain records and information to respond to customer requests for information on products, ingredients and procedures. Aid in the documenting and addressing corrective actions and/or client concerns, as well as to track the long-term effectiveness of corrective
  • Oversee all Lab personnel, procedures and Develop and update the overall QA plans for the Lab.
  • Issue weekly reports and/or presentations to the Management Team outlining QA/QC activities and initiative s.
  • Maintenance of overall Documentations relating to Food safety, Quality, and regulations required in the manufacturing of all products, SOP's, SSOP's, Policies, Work Instructions, and all documentation as required by SQF to attain and maintain the Company Certifications .


Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Able to work independently and as a team member with sales, production and other d company objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent working knowledge of general statistical concepts.
  • Good time management, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism and a positive work
  • Intermediate computer skills


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, food science, nutrition, or a related field of stu
  • 5+ years of experience in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Prior management of food safety and quality programs
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and
  • Extensive understanding of GMPs, AIB, HACCP and SQF
  • Must be well versed in analytical methodology (e.g., SM EDP, AOAC, etc. methods) and all guidance (e.g., EPA, FDA, Halal, etc.).
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal
  • Bilingual in Spanish - preferred
