We currently have an exciting opportunity on the Nellson team! We are seeking an energetic and results oriented Director of Accounting to support the executive team at Nellson Nutraceutical Corporate offices in Anaheim, CA. 

Purpose of Position:

The Director of Accounting is responsible for directing and managing all accounting functions, including accounts payable, credit & collections, financial systems, fixed assets, and general ledger.   Additionally the Director of General Accounting oversees the company's insurance and risk management activities.   Other key responsibilities include: establishing and maintaining the company's policies, practices and procedures; ensuring that the company's financial statements comply with US GAAP and IFRS; managing the annual audit process, while keeping abreast of emerging accounting pronouncement and understanding the potential impact to the company.   This individual will maintain an overall financial perspective of the company and will lead the Company's monthly, quarterly and annual close cycle and financial statement preparations.   As a Director, the ideal candidate will provide a high level of thought process to drive efficiency improvements in all aspects of the financial process; including but not limited to close cycle time reduction, improvements in working and risk management.   This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will oversee the General Accounting Staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily department operations accounts payable, credit & collections, financial systems and statement, Cash management & treasury, Intra Company, Fixed Assets, General Ledger, and related technical accounting matters.
  • Directs and produces timely and accurate monthly and annual financial statements in compliance with US GAAP and IFRS. This will include the oversight and review of the entire monthly accounting cycle.
  • Oversee daily treasury functions - reconciliation and reporting on cash accounts
  • Main contact for external auditors - responsible for issue resolution on all audits and schedules
  • Responsible for managing and improving existing systems and processes and all inbound and outbound financial systems for the company
  • Prepares analyses and utilize/develop reporting tools to obtain information from the general ledger and/or financial data warehouse as required to assist with reconciliations and analytics
  • Review of the monthly reporting packages, quarterly and annual reports and financial statements on a timely basis
  • Review financial statements, analysis and supporting work papers for reporting to senior management
  • Own and review accounting and technical accounting policies and procedures to the statutory auditors.
  • Maintain state and federal budgetary reporting requirements
  • Accounting duties, including payables/receivables, inventory management, cost accounting, expense reimbursement system, etc. with focus on systems building, implementation and efficiency
  • Work with external partner to prepare the business income tax returns and required schedules and work papers
  • Manage currency translation and hedging strategies
  • Standardization of best practices and procedures, and identify opportunities to streamline current practices.

Position Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in accounting leadership role, public accounting experience helpful but not required
  • A degree in accounting from a nationally recognized institution with outstanding academic credentials. CPA/MBA preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS and financial & internal controls
  • Income tax preparation knowledge
  • Experience with currency exchange rate considerations
  • Demonstrated ability leading and developing people
  • Experience and comfort, working in a fast-paced business environment with ability to consistently meet tight deadlines and manage complexity of a multiple information system environment
  • Superior analytical skills and intellectual curiosity with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex situations  
  • Well-developed presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to interact well with all levels of management, team members and external stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills
  • Considerable experience with Microsoft Office and other financial software / systems
